Good morning all! Click the link below to find out what kind of reader you are! 🙂
Hopefully, you’re a lover of the written word like me!
My second manuscript, Truthful Lies: The Untold Story of Jedidiah Jackson will hopefully be released in September. This book is very precious to me, and I have been working on it since 2014. I am finally ready to reveal it to the world.
When Dani Vanderholt is invited to attend Bishop Jackson’s 10-year Pastoral anniversary, she reluctantly agrees. Not only will she have to face the members who voted her out for getting pregnant at 16, she will have to face the man, who turned the entire congregation against her, but also fathered her son. Bishop Jedidiah Jackson.
In spite of having Dani shut out from “his” congregation, Bishop Jackson remembers the girl that he fell in love with. And what better way to kick off the celebration than by forgiving the sins of the past, and welcoming Dani back into the flock? With his secret “safe” all these years, Jackson cannot wait to see the fine, young woman Dani has blossomed into. But some secrets are never safe. Some skeletons are not content to remain in the closet.Â
This is Truthful Lies:Â The Untold Story of Jedidiah Jackson.
I hope you’re just as excited about this as I am! It’s coming soon! September 1, 2017!
Be ready to get your copy!
Hello hello all!
I have been hard at work! I recently completed my FIRST One Act, Ten-Minute Play entitled, “ROOMMATES”.
If you’ve ever lived with a roommate(s), you may relate to this piece.
Here’s the log line:
Roommates. Can’t live with them—-can definitely live without them! Tara is tired of her roommate, Jazz, bursting in on her during inopportune times: while she is studying, watching television, or simply wants peace and quiet. Well, two can play that game. Payback is sweet! And so is Tara… well, maybe not so much on this particular night.
Be on the lookout for this ten-minute play! I’m definitely going to try to get this performed! I’d like to see this on stage myself.
I’ve never seen my work on stage before so it will be quite an experience.
Update folks! I am currently working on a screenplay about the lynching of Emmett Till. For those who don’t know, Emmett Till was viciously beaten and murdered by two white men, J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant for whistling at a white woman, Carolyn Bryant and allegedly making crude comments (later proved false).
My father told me this story when I was 14-years-old, and it always resonated deep within me because the boy was my age at the time. I just couldn’t [and still can’t] fathom someone beating a child TO DEATH over a whistle. But… they were in Mississippi and it was 1955, and things were a whole hell of a lot different back then.
In January 2017, the white woman who caused all of this chaos, finally broke her silence after six decades. Carolyn Bryant stated that all of the lewd comments she claimed Emmett Till made toward her were not true. Upon hearing this information, I immediately put pen to paper and started writing, and before I knew it I was on a journey, but I knew I didn’t want to write a non-fiction book. That had already been done.
So I did some research–from what I have been able to gather–there has not been a film made about this horrific travesty. I have only been able to dig up several documentaries and one stage play. Why? Â Well… I’m on a journey to find out.
J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant were acquitted in the murder of Emmett Till in 1955. In 2017 the wife of Roy Bryant came forward and stated she lied… so–an innocent boy died and his face was so unrecognizable the family could only identify him by his father’s ring and NO ONE has put this on screen? Not yet anyway…
Stay tuned…
Hey folks! It’s been awhile!
I’ve been busy with my writer’s group in Hermitage, TN called, “Mastering Writing Workshop”. You can find us here: MEETUP . We meet twice a month and I ALWAYS provide my writer’s with information on upcoming contests, agents seeking submissions, new books or helpful blogs that I think will benefit anyone no matter their particular genre. This can be time consuming especially while I’m working on several of my own projects and being a beta-reader for others.
I am also trying to get my credentials in being a more proficient editor. I have the tools and skill set, but I would like some documentation to back that up. An MFA would be nice–fingers crossed–I find out if I got accepted into Vanderbilt in March. If not, I’ll try again soon. I’m also taking some editing courses online–which can be time consuming as well.
I have plans to attend the TN Writing Workshop in the summer, so I am preparing some work to send in–HOORAY!
All in all guys–I have A TON going on–all the while holding down a full-time job!
More to come soon.
Please check out my friend’s book, “One Drop” by Bob Cole. It’s the story of a Ku Klux Klan member discovering he has a black ancestor and everything he’s ever known has been a lie. VERY INTERESTING READ.

I pose a question to those who are on my website: Do you think the ONE DROP still applies?
I got my first view! Check it out below:
Thank you Cherie Bennett!

I hope you’re staying nice and warm! Where I am, it was a total blizzard this morning! We southerners are not equip for this type of weather! LOL! Burrrrr!!!
I wanted to give you all a quick update. “A Dance in December” did exceptionally well! Thank you to everyone who bought a copy! I appreciate your love and support!
I currently have two NEW works in progress, yet revisiting one old project. The latest piece is a novella, and the other is a screenplay. I’m tackling the screenplay first for a contest. This will be my first one–wish me luck! The old project I’m revisiting is a full manuscript, a little over 64,000 words and it is an adult novel. I’m attempting to get enough moola together and get the whole thing edited by an editor I REALLY like! 🙂 This manuscript has been complete for two years. I would really LOVE it if I could get this out of my hands and into the lap of an agent! The title is, “Truthful Lies”. I may give you a sneak peek on here… STAY TUNED!
Lots of plates spinning in 2017!
Be on the lookout–there’s more to come! I promise!
